Boy, is school tiring. I sleep and sleep and still feel tired. I'm submitting a proposal for use of the ACS to the school. I'm also trying to set up a meeting with our principal to discuss school reform. And on a third front, I'm trying to get a column in the school newspaper to do a series on the problems with school.
If I get the column, I'll publish it here too. Here are my thoughts so far:
I'll start out with the origins of school. How it came from the Prussian prison system, how originally children had to be separated from their parents at gunpoint, etc.
Then, I'll go with some Glasser, on how to be kinder to the children. Choice theory, and how it says that children and teachers need to work together.
Then, we'll stop by with McLuhan for a bit, and dwell on the famous phrase: "The Medium is the Message," because every schoolteacher should understand that and how it impacts their job.
We'll come to an end with some Postman, and his more revolutionary ideas.
We'll finish off with my plans for the school, and hopefully, their progress.
If none of this makes sense now, keep waiting, because hopefully it will when the column comes out.
As usual, comments are graciously appreciated.
